Apple Ketchup

Description

There is such a thing as apple ketchup and here is the recipe.

  • 1 dozen tart apples, peeled cored and quartered
  • For each 1 quart pulp
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 2 medium onions, grated
  • 1cup sugar
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
Methods/steps
  1. Place apples into a heavy bottom pot, with just enough water to cover, and simmer until soft. Do not add more water, allow to evaporate.
  2. Push apples through a food mill. Rinse pot, measure pulp and return apples to pot and add the remaining ingredients. Bring to just a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered, for at least 1 hour.
  3. Pour into jars. Process in a hot water bath for 10 minutes for your pints, or allow to cool and refrigerate.

Goes well with: Onion rings, Pork.
